Information processing is the brain’s method of gathering, analyzing, using, and remembering information. It is when an individual effectively uses the information the body’s senses have gathered. Following a brain injury, processing information, can be difficult. Challenges individuals may face include:

Effective strategies include:

  • Slow down, pause as needed when speaking.
  • Encourage the individual to write things down.
  • When speaking, only address one idea at a time.
  • Ask the individual to repeat what was discussed and rephrase in their own words.


Information Processing Issues may present as having a hearing loss, impaired vision, an attention deficit disorder or an intellectual or cognitive deficit.
