This year, we are asking the Virginia General Assembly to invest more in the services that support those affected by brain injury. We are asking for:
- $1,125,000 to create a “Housing Specialist” position at each state-funded community based BI Program
- $570,000 to expand specialized community-based brain injury case management services
Housing Specialist Positions: Why?
66% of state funded brain injury programs have reported an increase in calls from individuals searching for housing help. A housing specialist at these community-based programs would:
- Make connections with local housing entities
- Represent the needs of the brain injury community
- Work with clients to get them the necessary housing
Case Management: Why?
In FY22, 21 case managers were able to meet the case management needs of 1,258 people with brain injury; that’s a case load of almost 50 individuals to one case manager. But there are more than 300,000 Virginians disabled from brain injury and most all of them could use a Case Manager, so we need more.
This year, we’re asking for funding for six new case managers to serve 300 Virginians in underserved areas.
