Alex Joncas, Summer 2019 Public Relations Intern

About Me
My name is Alex and I am the new intern at BIAV! I am so excited to be able to intern with BIAV and learn a variety of new skills. I am from Charlottesville, Virginia and I am currently studying Communication and Sociology at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg – go Hokies! I get asked the question about how a girl from Charlottesville ended up going to Virginia Tech and that answer is easy: I loved the small-town vibe mixed with the opportunity to major in Communication, looking more closely at Public Relations. Although my mom is a UVA graduate, the only source of debate that sparks in my house is when basketball season starts up. In my free time I love going to sporting events, hiking, and going to amusement parks. One fun fact that people may be surprised to learn about me is that I worked at Walt Disney World for a semester and have now gotten the “Disney bug”. Today, a goal of mine is to visit every Disney park in the world.

About my Internship
I wanted to be in an environment where I could use my communications skills to help people. I think it is so important to be in a job where you feel good about the work you are doing. Making a difference in the community is a bonus as well, which is definitely fulfilled at BIAV. I am excited to take concepts I have learned in the classroom and apply them to whatever tasks may come my way. I hope to learn about the inner workings of communicating for a non-profit. I also want to leave this internship with a sense that I helped BIAV accomplish its mission. I hope to gain experience and memories that can last for years to come!
