Brain injuries are the leading cause of death and disability among children and adults under the age of 451. The national incidence of TBI is five times higher than the annual incidence of spinal cord injury, HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, and multiple sclerosis combined2, yet it remains relatively unrecognized by the general public. The Brain Injury Association of Virginia (BIAV) strives to increase the awareness of brain injury by: (1) Brain Injury Association of America statistics. March 2001.Awareness & Prevention
(2) TBI incidence. Brain Injury Association of America fact sheet. 2004.
