BIAA HOME : VIRGINIA : AWARENESS

Awareness & Prevention

Brain injuries are the leading cause of death and disability among children and adults under the age of 451. The national incidence of TBI is five times higher than the annual incidence of spinal cord injury, HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, and multiple sclerosis combined2, yet it remains relatively unrecognized by the general public.

The Brain Injury Association of Virginia (BIAV) strives to increase the awareness of brain injury by:

  • Educating the public about the physical, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral consequences of brain injury.
  • Developing and distributing education and prevention resources to professionals, government leaders, schools, hospitals, coaches, athletic trainers, law enforcement, and others.
  • Talking to state and federal legislators.
